Restoration of Jezeří
The works aimed at saving and restoring the chateau commenced in 1988. These works continued for about three years until they were interrupted by the outcome of the Velvet Revolution – the restitution process. During this time the back road from the abandoned village of Albrechtice was renewed, a complicated repair of two buttresses within the estate took place, the chateau was newly electrified and a new substation built, ceilings of the central wing were repaired, the north half of the main building got a new wooden schingle roof (unfortunately it was not made sure the girders were in a good shape as well), the waste water treatment plant for the entire estate was built and also the reconstruction of the administration building, the so called „Mansion“, started.
Whe the chateau was taken over by the state in 1996, a new phase of restoration began. In 1997-1999 only minor works were carried out, mostly in order to make the estate fit for visitors, and establishing the guided tour route. Further reconstruction works took place at the Mansion for the needs of the chateau management and to create a base for the construction firms working at the estate. During this time the water-pipe system leading water into the chateau from its old water-station was also renewed, the extended north wing of the chateau was restored – the „coachmen’s rooms“ to accomodate volunteers and other workers – as well as the stables. The guard house at the main gate was also repaired and now serves as a home to the chatelaine.
Only in 1999 did a breakthrough come, when Jezeří was included in the Programme of the Czech Architectural Heritage Conservation. Due to the extent of the chateau’s devastation it was truly a last minute help. Since then the following works have been carried out:
- restoration of girders, the roof and the supporting cornices of the south wing (theatre hall) (1999)
- reconstruction of the southern (right) half of the coach garage (1999)
- renewal of ceilings, girders and the roof of the southeast wing (2000)
- renewal of ceilings, girders and the roof of the southwest wing including the southern tower (2001)
- securing the statics of the southern tower (2001)
- restoration of girders and the roof of the central wing, including plate coating of the central tower’s cupola (2002)
- reconstruction of the main entrance portal (2003)
- restoration of the north buttress roof and girders (2003)
- restoration of the first half of the northeast wing’s girders and roof (2003)
- restoration of the girders and roof of the northern tower (2004)
- restoration of the second half of the northeast wing’s girders and roof (2004)
- restoration of the northwest wing’s girders and roof (2005)
- reconstruction of the northern (left) half of the coach garage (2005)
- reconstruction of the ceilings of the north buttress and a part of the helix staircase (2006)
- recontruction of the ceilings of the northeast wing (2007)
- reconstruction of the ceilings of the northwest wing (2008)
At present, therefore, the main building has undergone a roof reconstruction (finished in 2005) and also a long-term phase of the ceiling restoration (finished in 2008). In 2009 a part of the northwest wing’s facade was renewed as well.
In the forseeable future it is essential to finish the facade and window reconstruction. After this has been finished, the interiors of individual rooms will call to be renewed, repaired and refurnished; especially the theatre hall, the chaple, the billiards hall, the dining room and a long list of other representative rooms.
We also hope to include a photo gallery documenting the process of the chateau reconstruction soon.
